A day after a mob of over 100 people pelted stones at a metro station in West Delhi, allegedly over an eve teasing incident, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Wednesday termed it a one-off incident and denied any security lapse at the station.

“It was one off incident and there is enough security at all the stations. The Delhi Police was called in because it was a law and order issue. A minor scuffle turned ugly as people from outside barged in,” a metro spokesperson said.

According to police, two persons entered into a heated exchange after one of them allegedly teased the other person’s fiancee on the train at 9.30 pm.

After CISF personnel detained the accused — two of them — a mob gathered in front of Tilak Nagar metro station. They pelted stones at the station and were outside the station till 2 am, a CISF official said. The mob told security personnel to hand over the accused, who were kept at the station master’s room to protect them from the crowd.

“CISF personnel locked the accused in a room upstairs. Then a CISF official took the two youths to another station by metro and brought them out,” said CISF spokesperson Nishant Shankale.

Shankale said the situation would not have gone out of hand had the mob contacted CISF instead of creating a ruckus outside.
Accused arrested

Two brothers, Gaurav and Saurav, from New Mahavir Nagar were arrested for misbehaving with the woman, police said. They were bailed out on Wednesday.
The girl was returning home in Tilak Nagar with her fiance, Ravinder, and a nephew. She told police that they had gone to Gurdwara Bangla Sahib on Tuesday evening.

“Then they boarded a train at Rajiv Chowk. The two brothers, who boarded the train at Karol Bagh, started misbehaving with her and passing lewd comments. When Ravinder protested, they threatened to kidnap her. When all of them got down at Tilak Nagar, the youths and their friends attacked the woman and her fiance,” police said.

In the complaint, Ravinder said Sourav and Gaurav called their friends by phone, asking them to come to Tilak Nagar metro station.

“When we were about to come out of the station, a group of boys attacked me. They pulled my turban and pinned me to the ground. CISF personnel did nothing to stop them. My fiancee also received bruises on her face,” said Ravinder. The CISF has also filed a complaint against unknown persons for manhandling guards on duty and damaging property.
