DTC sacks 19 staffers for dereliction of duty

Cracking down on erring employees, Delhi Transport Corporation has sacked 19 employees, while 17 other have been suspended as a part of disciplinary action.

The fiat comes in wake of a week-long — September 10 to 15 — special drive conducted by the corporation to check the loss of revenue through ticketless travelling, and non-issuance of tickets by conductors after collecting the due fare.

“Based on the reports prepared against the erring  officials during the special drive, disciplinary action have been initiated against 1,636 employees so far,” a DTC official said.

According to the DTC officials, 34,024 buses were checked during the checking drive and at least 2,825 passengers were found traveling without ticket.

“Out of those travelling without  ticket, 794 were members of Delhi Police and the government officials. A total of 176 cases of over-travelling were also detected,” the official said.  

When a passenger travels more than the denomination of his ticket, it is called over-travelling.

A total of 2,037 people were fined for ticketless travelling which helped the corporation in accruing a revenue of Rs 4,07,400, the official added.

As a part of checking the bus crew members, 705 drivers and conductors were found without uniform, 172 cases of rash driving were detected. “While 142 cases of improper parking on bus stops were reported, 32 conductors were booked for not asking tickets from passengers and 26 drivers were found driving bus with open gates,” said the official.

Other 3,203 cases of minor irregularities have also been reported.
