Guards at AIIMS continue strike

Last Updated 16 December 2011, 20:41 IST

Prehari Protection Systems (PPS), contractor of security guards at AIIMS for the past three years, has been replaced by Group 4 Security Systems. “PPS has been illegally replaced by Group 4 without seeking any tender. Group 4 was not even eligible in the last tender,” said Kamaljit Singh, Managing Director, PPS.

The trouble started on Thursday when the guards went on strike against irregularities in payment of salaries and provident fund. The guards accused the PPS of providing them with wrong PF numbers for the fifth time on the December 13. “I have been working here as a security guard for four years. We have been protesting against wrong PF numbers given by the PPS. The fifth list is also faulty. There are no government records of the numbers given,” said R P Singh, supervisor of the security guards.

Only half of the guards have been given the numbers, with no women guard’s name appearing in the latest list. “They have omitted the names of all the women guards.

Even the clothes of the guards, which are to be provided by the company, have to be bought by us,” said Satyavati, a security guard.

The payment of PF is due for the past  four years.

The guards also complained that their salary slips showed less salary than what they get. That reduces the amount of the PF, too, as it is 12 per cent of the given salary. “I should get a PF of Rs 60,000 having worked for three years. But the contractor is giving me only Rs. 20,000,” complained Vinod Kr. Dilip, a security guard.
