Music teacher held for molesting girl

Was trained in guitar by victim's father

A private guitar teacher allegedly molested his 15-year-old student in the absence of her mother in south Delhi’s Kalkaji on Thursday. He was arrested after the victim’s mother approached the local police.

The accused was trained in guitar by the victim’s father some years ago. However, the girl’s parents separated sometime ago after which the accused had been giving guitar lessons to her, police said on Friday.

The class 9 girl stays with her mother in Kalkaji area. The accused Vinod Kushwaha lives in the neighbourhood. He would visit the girl’s home to take her classes. The relation between the accused and the victim and her mother were cordial and he was treated as a member of the family.

The mother and daughter trusted the 25-year-old and had also handed over to him a set of keys to their house.

The alleged molestation incident took place on Thursday afternoon while the girl’s mother had gone out for some work. Kushwaha allegedly entered the house using the spare keys while the girl was sleeping inside.

The girl felt someone groping her and woke up to find Kushwaha molesting her. She began screaming out for help upon which Kushwaha allegedly tried to suppress her cries and threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone.

The girl, however, continued screaming which frightened the accused and he fled from the house. The victim’s mother was not very far from the house at that time and she rushed home on hearing the cries for help.

The girl narrated the incident to her mother after which she was led to the Kalkaji police station where police registered a case based on the victim’s statement.

A  police officer told Deccan Herald that Kushwaha was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested from his home. He was produced before a magistrate on Friday and sent to jail.
