They demand strong action against officials

Facing attacks from political rivals for being “anti-women”, the AAP has blamed the negligence of the central-government controlled Delhi Police for the suicide of its party volunteer in Narela.

AAP National Spokesperson Ashish Khetan said before she committed suicide she left a note in which she complained of the Delhi Police's inaction and an apparent bias in favour of the main accused.

The woman AAP worker, for whose suicide Narela legislator Sharad Chauhan has landed behind bars, died after consuming poison in Narela and died in LNJP Hospital on July 19.
She earlier blamed the legislator for protecting her alleged molestor.

Khetan said police and political rivals of have been trying to frame AAP leaders and Chauhan in this suicide case, whereas the AAP has repeatedly made it clear that the party has nothing to do with the main accused.

He has never been a member of the party.
“Both, the FIR and the woman’s letter before she committed suicide make it clear that her repeated complaints to the Delhi Police were going unheard,” he said.

Senior leader and National Spokesperson of the AAP, Sanjay Singh, said :“The BJP is merely playing politics over this issue and they have no intention of ensuring that the victim gets justice.”

Khetan said: “When she approached the AAP for help, Delhi Convener Dilip Pandey did rush to help her. The Delhi Commission for Women and the Public Grievance Monitoring System (PGMS) of the Chief Minister's Office too put pressure on the Delhi Police to register a case in the matter.”

“All of these facts are mentioned in the letter the woman wrote to the PGMS of Delhi CMO when she found the police to be completely uncooperative. She had also complained of the police's shocking backing of the accused, instead of taking action against him,” he said.

Singh said the AAP demands strong action against police officials who backed the accused in this case.

“They must be arrested and a case must be registered against them. The BJP and Delhi Police are maliciously concocting cases against leaders of the AAP in an attempt to discredit the party,” he said.

Narela legislator Chauhan was arrested on Saturday by police in connection with the suicide of a woman worker of the ruling party, taking the total number of arrested in the case to eight. Chauhan and main accused Ramesh Bhardwaj were questioned by the crime branch of Delhi Police for several hours last week in connection with the case.

Besides Chauhan and Bhardwaj, five others including the MLA's associates Amit and Rajnikant have been arrested.
