Gang rape victims father gives consent

South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Tuesday announced that it will name its proposed Science Museum after the 23-year-old gang rape victim, who succumbed to her injuries in a hospital in Singapore.

The victim’s father has given his consent under section 228-A of Indian Penal Code to make public his daughter’s name.

South Corporation mayor Savita Gupta said, “The SDMC is naming its proposed Science Museum in R K Puram on the name of the gang rape victim. On the recommendation of the naming committee of the corporation, the name of museum has been proposed as Brave Heart (victim’s name) Science Museum.

It was first proposed by Gupta on her visit to the victim’s ancestral village in Ballia in Uttar Pradesh.

Gupta said the other two  corporations will also name its various projects in the memory of the braveheart. “The three corporations will also make a contribution of Rs 5 lakh each to assist the girl’s family,” she said.

By her brave sacrifice, she was able to create awareness about lapses in traffic administration and law and order, she added.

The father demanded death penalty for all the six accused irrespective of their age. He added that he wants the world to know his daughter’s name.

“We are hurt when she is called a gang rape victim. She is the daughter of the nation. We want her name to be known to everyone and she should be addressed by her real name,” he said.

The girl’s brother also demanded that the accused juvenile should not get the advantage of being a minor as he is just few months short of 18 years.
