A security guard was killed when a speeding truck rammed into the gate of All India Institute of Medical Sciences in south Delhi on Saturday. The driver managed to flee but the vehicle’s registration number was noted by another guard, police said.

The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Sandeep Kumar. Police said he was on night duty with 25-year-old Arjun when the incident occurred at around 5 am.

The impact damaged the cabin meant for security guards at the gate. “The cabin’s roof collapsed in which both the security guards were injured. Sandeep was declared dead on the spot,” said a police officer.

People began to gather at the gate upon which the truck driver fled with the vehicle. Arjun was injured in the accident, but managed to note the registration number of the truck.

“It was of Rajasthan,” the officer added. A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence has been registered with Hauz Khas police station. Arjun is undergoing treatment at the AIIMS trauma centre.

Crushed by dumper

In another accident, a 42-year-old man on a moped was crushed to death by a municipal corporation dumper in south east Delhi’s Okhla on Saturday. The driver fled after leaving the vehicle on the spot. A mob later damaged the vehicle.

The victim has been identified as Sudhir, a resident of Pul Prahladpur in south Delhi.

“The moped was hit from the rear which made Sudhir lose balance and led to a collision with an adjacent road divider,” said a police officer. The situation was brought under control by local police at around 1.30 pm. The driver has been identified but is yet to be arrested.
