Two men have been apprehended for cheating people on the pretext of providing them jobs as conductor in the Delhi Transport Corporation, the police said on Saturday.

Udaivir Singh, 59, a resident of Shiv Vihar Colony, and Amit Malik, 38, a resident of Saini Colony, were arrested from their homes over a complaint by Nathu Ram, an assistant traffic inspector at Sarojini Nagar DTC depot, said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south).

Nathu told police that five or six candidates had approached the Sarojini Nagar DTC depot to join as contractual conductor. But no such direction or orders were received either from his head office or from any senior officer.

“On verification, it was found that the appointment letters issued to the candidates were forged and fake,” Sharma added.

The police then questioned the victims and deployed sources to get clues about the accused persons. “We got information from a reliable source and Udaivir Singh and Amit Malik were arrested,” Sharma said.

Udaivir told police that he is employed in DTC as a permanent conductor and is presently posted at Banda Bahadur Marg depot-I. “He along with his son-in-law Naveen and accomplice Malik lured candidates. They had given forged appointments letters to the victims after charging Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh,” Sharma added.
