Two passengers caught with bullets at IGI airport

Two persons travelling abroad have been arrested in separate cases for carrying bullets in their bags at IGI Airport. The two arrests, including one of a woman, were made on Tuesday and Wednesday and a total of eight cartridges were seized from them.

The two were later granted bail. While the man was headed to Uzbekistan, the woman had a ticket for Toronto in Canada, a police officer told Deccan Herald.

The first case was reported on Tuesday morning when one Piyara Singh checked in at Terminal-3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport. He was set to fly to Tashkent in Uzbekistan by an Uzbekistan Airways flight. A live bullet was found in his handbag during the scanning of luggage.

“Singh could not produce any licence or documents for the bullet. He was subsequently arrested and booked under the Arms Act,” said the officer.

The recoveries in the second case were made on Wednesday morning during the manual checking of the luggage of Komal Preet Malhai. Carrying a Canadian passport, the woman had checked into the airport with a ticket to Tornoto via London.

Seven live cartridges were found neatly packed and kept in Malhai’s bag when a security personal opened her bag. She was immediately apprehended and senior officers informed. She could not offer a satisfactory explanation or the necessary documents for carrying the bullets.
