Woman sexually harassed at IGI

A 40-year-old woman who had arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport from Dubai was sexually harassed by a loader at the airport’s Terminal-3 area late on Thursday, police said.

The man was beaten up by bystanders. The woman, a resident of Noida, was waiting for her brother outside the terminal when the incident took place at about 11.30 pm.

Police said the accused has been identified as Shravan Kumar, 28. He lives in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri and was in an inebriated condition when he misbehaved.

In her statement, the woman told police that she was waiting at the pick-up lane when Shravan, who was standing near her, began staring at her inappropriately. “The woman claimed that she objected to his behaviour, but he allegedly began verbally abusing her,” the officer added.

She walked towards him and slapped him. The two then got into a scuffle, which was broken up by some passengers. Police personnel deployed at the nearby police booth were alerted and they rushed to the spot. Shravan was beaten up by bystanders before being handed over to police.

“A medical examination has confirmed that Shravan was in an inebriated condition,” the officer said. A case under sections 354 (criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code has been filed with IGI Airport police station.
