JOIN USBharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday demanded immediate dismissal of the Tarun Gogoi government, holding it responsible for the violence in Assam.
Addressing a dharna of BJP workers at Jantar Mantar, Gadkari said Assam has been burning since 1957 and the Congress government is not taking the issue seriously as it is benefiting from vote bank politics. “The Congress government is fully responsible for it because it gets votes of illegal Bangladeshi migrants living in India. Due to this, the Congress government is avoiding to solve the problem,” said Gadkari, giving example of Israel which has erected walls on its 500-km-long border and installed electric fences to curb infiltration. He said there is no country in the world except India that not only allows infiltrators to live in the country but also lets them vote, take part in politics, grab land, get ration cards, and indulge in loot and murder. Rajya Sabha MP Arun Jaitley said that with the government’s failure to stop illegal migration over the years, the demographic balance in Assam is now in favour of Bangladeshis, who are now burning down houses and industries of original inhabitants of Assam. “They are also grabbing land by force. Over 100 Scheduled Tribe people have been killed since July 6, and about four lakh people are living in relief camps. But the government is not serious about the problem,” said Jaitley. He demanded immediate deportation of illegal Bangladeshi migrants. Senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu said that it is unfortunate that the forces engaged in facilitating infiltration are helped by the government. Delhi state BJP president Vijender Gupta presided over the dharna, which lasted several hours and was attended by thousands. A photo exhibition was also organised.
