Rahul Gandhi launches a scathing attack on Modi

Last Updated 18 March 2019, 17:19 IST

Referring to the Main Bhi Chowkidar(I too am a guard) campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AICC president Rahu Gandhi on Monday launched a blistering attack on Modi, saying he launched this campaign after his ‘theft’ was caught.

Addressing the Parivartan rally organised at Nutan Vidyalaya Ground here, he accused the prime minister of being the chowkidar for businessmen and rich people, but not the poor and farmers of the country.

He is chowkidar for Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Mehul Choksi, Vijay Mallya and others who fled the country in connection with fraudulent cases. The chowkidar handed over six airports of India to Adani the same day the terrorist attack occurred in Pulwama, he alleged.

Terming Rafale as the biggest defence deal in the world, the AICC president said that when the UPA government was in power, it had stated that Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) would bag the contract of manufacturing fighter jets. Soon after chowkidar (Modi) came to power, he along with industrialist Anil Ambani visited France and changed the contract to help Ambani.

A fighter jet which could have been manufactured at a cost of Rs 526 crore is being brought for Rs 1,600 crore each. This contract has been awarded to Ambani who never manufactured even a single aircraft. Chowkidar took away jobs from the common people with a purpose of giving Rs 30,000 crore to Ambani, Rahul said.

Referring to investigative reports published in an English daily on the Rafale deal, he said the reports exposed Modi’s parallel negotiations with France on the deal. Before Modi was not caught, he was the only chowkidar. “When he was caught, the prime minister wanted to make entire India chowkidar,” Rahul said.

‘Modi a liar’

The prime minister is hoodwinking the people by lying during every speech. Modi promised the people of the country that he will bring back black money and credit Rs 15 lakh each to people’s bank accounts. “Did he do so? He is an utter liar and is cheating the people,” Rahul said.

Taking a swipe at Modi for not creating jobs as he promised, the AICC president said that the creation of employment touched the lowest nadir during his tenure.

The Congress party will make the taxing system simple and will implement a single form tax system to help small businessmen and economically backward.

Coalition Coordination Committee Chairman Siddaramaiah, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, Home Minister M B Patil, KPCC President Dinesh Gundu Rao and Working President Eshwar Khandre were present.
