<p>In what is claimed as a first in the world, a new building development in London will feature a 35-metre-high (115 ft) suspended swimming pool that bridges two luxury apartment blocks. The so-called Sky Pool will be part of Embassy Gardens, developed by Ireland-based Ballymore Group, and will allow residents to try out their swimming skills while visiting neighbours in other apartments.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Embassy Gardens will be located near the new US Embassy in the Nine Elms area of London, for which a competition for a new bridge over the River Thames is also underway. The pool has a completely transparent 20-centimetre-thick glass casing. Measuring 25 metres (82 ft) long, five metres (16 ft) wide and three metres (10 ft) deep, the pool will span the two buildings at the 10th storey without any additional frame or support.<br /><br />Designed by Arup Associates, Eckersley O’Callghan and aquarium designers Reynolds, the pool will be accompanied by a sky deck at the top of the two buildings. The deck will feature a spa and a bar, as well as offer views of the surrounding areas that take in the Houses of Parliament and the giant London Eye Wheel.<br /><br />Embassy Gardens will offer 2,42,000 sq metres (2,600,000 sq ft) of mixed-use space that will incorporate nearly 2,000 new homes, a 100-bed hotel, offices, retail and leisure spaces, grocery store and flexible work and community spaces.<br /><br />The buildings that the pool will link are part of the second phase of the <br />Embassy Gardens development and are expected to be made available to the <br />market shortly.<br /><br /></p>
