<p>A washing machine mechanic appears to be the latest victim of con women who strip people, take pictures and extort money by threatening to file false rape attempt cases.<br /><br /></p>.<p>His nightmare began with a call from Renu, who wanted him to attend to a snag in her washing machine. <br /><br />Balwinder Singh (name changed) went to the Uttam Nagar house, taking it as a routine servicing call, but was trapped by the woman who wanted him to have sex with her friend Seema, who was also present there.<br /><br />A refusal by the 34-year-old invited more trouble. Two men posing as policemen in civilian clothes stepped into the ‘crime scene’, stripped him, photographed him and forced him to sign papers admitting that he was caught in a compromising position with Seema. They also demanded Rs 10,000 if he wanted to be avoid a police case.<br /><br />Balwinder, who works with Panasonic, told police that he was being blackmailed over the incident which happened on October 27. <br /><br />The sequence of events began after he was contacted by a woman named Renu. She had bought a washing machine from a shop in Om Vihar Phase 5, which she claimed needed repair. At her house, Renu allegedly told him to have sex with Seema. When Balwinder refused, the women called in the men. They were carrying Delhi Police files. <br /><br />The duo stripped Balwinder naked, and forced him to sign some papers. <br /><br />“It was mentioned that I was caught in a compromising position with Seema,” Balwinder alleged in his statement to police.<br /><br />One of the accused allegedly took Balwinder’s photographs and told him that they would implicate him in a rape case. The accused then demanded immediate payment of Rs 10,000 and took him to a State Bank of India ATM to withdraw the cash. <br /><br />As not much money was available in the bank account, they managed to withdraw only Rs 1,000. <br /><br />However, they kept his driving license, identity card and the registration certificate of his motorcycle.<br /><br />“For the payment of the remaining Rs 9,000, they took my mobile phone number, but did not provide any contact information,” Balwinder added.<br /><br />A case of wrongful confinement and extortion has been filed with Uttam Nagar police station. It is alleged that local police officers initially refused to file a case, and action was taken only after Balwinder approached Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh. Renu was arrested from the house, but the others are absconding.<br /></p>
