Walk out of NDA if alternative is found: NCP to Sena

Last Updated 05 November 2019, 16:50 IST

The Sharad Pawar-led NCP has asked the Shiv Sena to come out of the fold of BJP-led NDA at the Centre before discussing any proposal to form government in Maharashtra.

The Sena has one cabinet minister in the Narendra Modi government. Mumbai South MP Arvind Sawant is in charge of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises portfolio.

Mumbai NCP president and chief spokesperson Nawab Malik told reporters: "If BJP and Shiv Sena cannot work it out, an alternative could be given. The Shiv Sena has to declare that it is no longer associated with the BJP and NDA. Only then the alternative can be worked out."

Meanwhile, state NCP president Jayant Patil said: "Today also our position is the same, we have been mandated to sit in the opposition and we will sit, but there has to be a government to oppose."

The Shiv Sena has not given any proposal to us so far, so a discussion on the issue of supporting Sena does not arise, Patil said.
