An Ola cab driver was arrested on Tuesday for mowing down a football player, who represented Karnataka.

Ranga Reddy (35), a resident of Electronics City, had been hiding since the accident on Sunday, the police said.

The Banashankari traffic police arrested the suspect based on the images captured by a CCTV camera of his car.

N D Tejaswini, who hailed from Arkalgud in Hassan district, was working at a software company in Marathhalli. She was travelling home on a bike with her cousin when the cab hit their vehicle on the Outer Ring Road at Nayandahalli. She was thrown off the bike and came under the wheels of the car.

Tejaswini was admitted to a hospital, where she did not respond to treatment and succumbed to injuries the next day.

"The car has been registered under a different name. The accused took the vehicle on rent and tagged with Ola a year ago. He used to drive in the city and drive to his home through Outer Ring Road. The accident happened when he was heading home and he did not stop the car," police said.
