The day on which TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) was to address a series of public meetings in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district, Revanth Reddy was taken into custody.

The Kodangal Congress candidate and TPCC working president was later released to facilitate KCR’s public meeting at Kosgi.

The release came after the Hyderabad High Court's intervention.

Rajat Kumar, chief election officer (CEO), directed the Revanth's release

It all began on Tuesday at 3 AM, when a posse of police entered Revanth’s residence at Kodangal and barged into his bedroom and was taken into custody.

“The police barged in and arrested my husband without showing any clear reason. They didn’t even tell me where they are taking him. There is a threat to my husband’s life,” A Geetha, Revanth’s wife told the media.

The police on Monday had served a notice to Revanth warning him against creating any disruptions during the public meeting of the caretaker chief minister.

Revanth had given a call to his support to protest against KCR and had also called for a bandh in Kodangal, which the Congress said was withdrawn immediately.

KCR's public meeting was slated at 4 pm in Kosgi, 15 km from Kodangal town.

With confusion prevailing over Revanth's location, the Congress party functionary Vem Narender Reddy moved a lunch motion petition at the high court seeking Revanth's immediate release.

The high court in its order asked the CEO why the TPCC working president was taken into custody and asked the police to submit the intelligence report based on which Revanth was arrested.

After almost 12 hours after his arrest, around 4 pm, Revanth was released from the District Police Centre at Jadcherla.

Before he was taken out amidst high security, his followers were allowed to give him medication.

Later, addressing a public meeting at Kosgi, KCR made no mention of Revanth but said that the TRS will win all the 14 seats in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district.

KCR claimed that even after adopting the district in the name of development, former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has failed to solve the water problem in the district.
