Talk of Hung Assembly gains momentum, parleys start

Even as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Congress-led Praja Kutami have expressed confidence of forming the government without any external support, a day before the counting of the votes polled on 7 December, they were found getting ready for any eventuality.

While BJP Telangana unit offered a friendly hand to TRS in case of a Hung Assembly, the AIMIM said it stands by the TRS in case of political exigency.

On Sunday, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi called on TRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and said to have congratulated him ahead of counting saying that TRS will win more seats than KCR has anticipated. "Insha’Allah he will form the government on his own strength and Majlis will stand by him. This is our first step towards a larger goal of nation-building” Asad tweeted before he ventured to CM’s official residence Pragathi Bhavan on a swanky new high-end motorbike all alone. TRS and AIMIM have a pre-poll understanding not to field candidates in the same constituency.

However, the BJP state Chief Dr K Laxman surprised everyone by offering to help TRS in case of a hung assembly. The BJP which has contested in 118 constituencies wanted to grow on its own. However, the party now is ready to help TRS only if it says goodbye to Majlis. BJP believes that TRS will fall short of the magic figure and it would need. However, party sources later have said that Mr. Laxman’s comments were misinterpreted and BJP has no official stand on an alliance with TRS.

Treat us as a single entity

Meanwhile, the Congress-led Praja Kutami leaders have met the state governor ESL Narasimhan on Monday and requested him to treat the Alliance as a single entity. “We have met the government and submitted a resolution explaining to him that we have entered into a pre-poll alliance with a common minimum programme. We told him to treat as a single entity before taking any decision,” TPCC Chief Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy told media outside Rajbhavan.

“The political situation warrants that we meet the Governor right now and not tomorrow as we may have sufficient time to meet him at a later stage,” Uttam said denying any worry about a hung assembly. Professor Kodandaram of TJS pointed out that that the “Praja Kutami” will win the election and must be treated as a single largest party as per supreme court judgment.
