Body of man, washed away in flood, retrieved

The body of Ashok (21), who drowned near Hullinagadde bridge on July 10, was retrieved near Theerthakere on Thursday.

Ashok was washed away in the flood on the submerged bridge when he was travelling on his bike from Karemane, to a relative’s house in
Kotethota.

The district administration, with the help of a 30 NDRF personnel, had launched a search operation for the body in the spot for four days, but in wain.

The search operation intensified after the villagers staged a protest and complained to MLA T D Rajegowda over the delay in the operation.

Diving experts, comprising Bhaskar and three others, carried out a search operation by diving deep in the river on Thursday. Simultaneously, locals and a team, headed by Peter Abraham, conducted a search using a coracle near Theerthakere, eight km away from Hullinagadde.

They found the body in a decomposed state, stuck to a plant. The identity was confirmed later.

The body was handed over to his relatives after postmortem.

In-charge SP Lakshmi Prasad was present. MLA Rajegowda has assured the family of providing compensation.
