<p>Power and automation technology group ABB said on Wednesday that it has started two new facilities producing power products in India to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the company’s Vadodara manufacturing hub in Gujarat. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The new units covering an area of about 15,000 sq m were built in 18 months at an investment of approximately Rs 250 crore and are located in Savli, close to the Vadodara facility. The new manufacturing units will produce high-voltage switchgear and distribution transformers, Bernhard Jucker, head of ABB’s Power Products division, said.<br /><br />“This expansion supports our ‘in country for country’ approach and is in line with ABB’s strategy of establishing manufacturing and marketing units close to customers,” Jucker said.<br /> <br />The high-voltage unit will produce gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) and PASS (plug and switch system) hybrid switchgear to serve growing demand in India and also serve as an export hub. The new transformer factory will focus on the production of dry-type and oil immersed distribution transformers, Jucker said.</p>
