Advance tax collection jumps 18 per cent

Reliance Industries, which is reported to have paid Rs 2,000 crore for second quarter, leads the list. Besides, steel, software exporters and private banks have also paid higher advance tax for the quarter.

State Bank of India amidst slowing credit growth, is said to have paid less this quarter at Rs 1,700 crore against Rs 1,900 crore in the year-ago period. Hindustan Petroleum’s advance tax payment came down by a third over last year to paltry Rs 30 crore for September quarter, while Bharat Petroleum saw its tax outgo halving to Rs 100 crore.

RIL, which sold 30 per cent interest in KG Basin fields to British Petroleum recently, is likely to have paid an advance tax of Rs 2,000 crore against Rs 1,200 crore in the year-ago period, sources said.

All Tata Group firms, led by TCS (Rs 570 crore as against Rs 270 crore in the same period this year), paid more in taxes this quarter, they said. Tata Steel is said have paid Rs 100 crore more this quarter at Rs 620 crore. Bank of Baroda is said to have paid Rs 630 crore as against Rs 350 crore in the same quarter last year.

ICICI Bank, saw its advance tax outgo remaining flat at Rs 650 crore, while HDFC Bank paid more this year, at Rs 800 crore as against Rs 600 crore. YES Bank paid Rs 126 crore as compared to Rs 105 crore, sources said. LIC paid Rs 1,160 crore against Rs 1,050 crore, while General Insurance Corporation paid Rs 130 crore versus last year’s Rs 90 crore.

Bajaj Auto paid Rs 250 crore against Rs 240 crore, Mahindra and Mahindra paid Rs 170 crore versus Rs 160 crore, while Tata Motors’ payout was flat at Rs 90 crore, sources said.
