Amazon planning 100 mall kiosks in India

E-commerce giant Amazon is planning to install 100 kiosks in malls across the country to help drive sales of its devices like Kindle, Echo and Fire, according to a report in ET.

The report says the move could be a precursor to Amazon entering the phyiscal store business in the country, citing people familiar with the company's plans. The company already operates four such kiosks - two in Bengaluru, one in Mumbai and one in Ahmedabad.

The report, citing an Amazon spokesperson, said that the company was not commenting on future roadmap but was looking at ways to enhance consumer experiences. The spokesperson also said that the kisoks would give users a demo of Amazon devices with the help of store staff.

Amazon received a government approval to sell locally produced goods both online and offline in 2017, however, the company is yet to open any physical stores. It currently sells food and other household items through its Amazon Pantry programme.
