<div>In a bid to attract investment and discover business opportunities in the Indian pharmaceutical and medical devices industries, the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilsers, in association with Ficci, will host the maiden Indian Pharma 2016 and the Indian Medical Expo 2016 in Bengaluru, during January 7-9, 2016.<br /><br />Aimed at a Make in India push, the events are expected to provide a huge forum for the healthcare industry in general, besides becoming a platform for companies to exhibit and showcase various products, services, equipment, R&D, and other areas of interest in the medical and pharmaceutical fields.<br /><br />Addressing the curtain raiser on Sunday, Department of Pharmaceuticals Secretary V K Subburaj said, “Our growth in the pharma sector is to the tune of $32 billion. The biopharma sector at $3 billion-$4 billion is still in infancy, but has potential to reach $50 billion in ten years. Same holds good for the small medical devices sector ($5 billion).”<br /><br />“The Indian pharma sector is playing a key role on the world stage. Without Indian generics, world healthcare is at risk,” Biocon CMD Kiran Mazumdar Shaw said.<br /><br />Karnataka Heavy and Medium Industries Minister R V Deshpande said Karnataka would cooperate with the Centre in its Make in India campaign, and in terms of pharmaceuticals, he said, “We would support a cluster (for pharma sector) in Karnataka.”<br /></div>
