<p>Addressing an interaction with the members of Bangalore Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Kamal Nath said the bill — National Road Safety Management Bill would help in strictly enforcing road safety rules across the country. The bill, he hoped, would also go a long way in checking the rising rate of casualties in road accidents in the country. <br /><br />“The proposed board will lay down certain standards and rules to enforce the law. We need a holistic approach towards road safety with international standards,” he said. The Motor Vehicles Act 1988 will redefine the speed limits. <br /><br />The draft amendments will also be made public for comments from stakeholders, including manufacturers, regulators, law enforcing agencies (police) and road users. Further, Kamal Nath said the Centre has also constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Nandan M Nilekani to identify the tolling technology which fits India. <br /><br />Stating that “there’s no one size fits all in India,” he said, the committee would help the Centre with India specific technology and approach to address the issue.</p>
