Reliance Industries to invest Rs 10 lakh crore in AI push: Mukesh Ambani

New Delhi: Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and its telecom arm Jio will invest Rs 10 lakh crore over the next seven years, starting this year, to develop AI infrastructure and services in India, RIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani said on Thursday.

“This is not speculative investment. It is not for chasing valuation. This is patient, disciplined, nation-building capital — designed to create durable economic value and strategic resilience for decades to come,” he added.

Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Ambani said Reliance will build India’s sovereign compute infrastructure through three initiatives — GW-scale data centre, green energy and nationwide edge compute.

“We have already started construction on multi-gigawatt, AI-ready data-centres at Jamnagar. Over 120 MW will come online in the second half of 2026, and a clear path to GW-scale compute for training and large-scale inference,” he added.

Ambani claimed that Reliance has an in-house energy advantage with up to 10 GW of ready green-power surplus, anchored by solar in Kutch and Andhra Pradesh.

“An edge-compute layer, deeply integrated with Jio’s network, will make intelligence responsive, low-latency and affordable — close to where Indians live, learn and work,” he added.

Ambani's announcement follows Adani Group’s $100 billion investment commitment by 2035 for building AI-ready data centres. “The investment is expected to catalyse by 2035 an additional $150 billion across server manufacturing, advanced electrical infrastructure, sovereign cloud platforms and supporting industries. Together, this is projected to create a $250-billion AI infrastructure ecosystem in India over the decade,” the Gautam Adani-led conglomerate said earlier this week.

On jobs, Ambani said AI would not eliminate jobs, but instead create new high-skill employment opportunities.

He remarked that the biggest constraint in AI is not scarcity of talent or imagination, but scarcity and high cost of compute.

Ambani underlined the need for global cooperation in the development of the AI ecosystem. “AI is now becoming a people’s movement worldwide. The success of this movement hinges critically on global cooperation ─ and not polarisation. Be it chips or rare earths, AI works its magic through sharing, not hoarding; through collaborations, not conflicts,” he said.

Ambani hoped that India would emerge as one of the world's greatest AI powers, fueled by strengths in demography, democracy, development, digital infrastructure, data generation, and AI potential.
