Deposits by NRIs in Kerala banks decline

These figures were released at the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) meeting here Monday.
The nationalised State Bank group led with a total of Rs.16,022 crore, 42.78 percent of the total NRI deposit.

The private sector banks came second with 28.37 percent share, accounting for Rs.10,626 crore. The nationalised banks accounted for 27.10 percent share with Rs.10,151 crores.

However, the total NRI deposits on Sep 30 this year were higher than in the corresponding period last year when it was Rs.31,585 crore.
Of the total deposits, Rs.25,280 crore came to semi-urban areas of the state.

There are more than 20 lakh Keralites settled outside India of which about 90 percent are in the Middle-East countries.
