Ashwin and Girish win Bangalore leg of Audi Quattro Cup 2014

 The  duo of B Ashwin and B V Girish beat 49 other teams in the Hyderabad leg, the ninth event of the Audi Quattro Cup 2014 season, to qualify for the national finals.

In the qualifying round held at the Prestige Golfshire here last Saturday, Ashwin and Girish combined to score 43 stableford points and pipped the duo of Kawamura Kazuhisa and Sanjay Purohit to the second spot by a solitary point. The Bangalore leg of the multi-city event was hosted by Audi Bangalore in association with Turkish Airlines.

K R Muralidhar and Syed Arif finished third on a countback with 42 points. A wild card entry was also picked during the prize presentation where the team of F R Singhvi and Deepak Anand Joseph were the lucky winners. However, they have to await the scores of 12 other teams to secure a National final berth.

Hosted by Audi Bangalore, the one-day event saw the cyber city’s leading corporate czars trying to earn a coveted place in the final. In the various skills competitions held alongside the main event, Kratish Bopanna won the “Longest Drive” prize with a drive of 305 yards and emerged as the proud winner of the Audi Experience where he gets to use a chauffeur-driven Audi A6 on the weekend.

Amar Kumar Pandey won the ‘Straightest Drive” award when he hit it on the line while Syed Arif emerged as the winner in the “Closest to Pin” with a shot that landed about 11 feet from the pin.

Established in 1991, the Audi Quattro Cup tournament series has become one of the most celebrated amateur golf tournaments in the world, bringing together over 85,000 golfers from 54 countries.

The Indian circuit of Audi quattro Cup will visit 12 other cities making it a 13-leg series and will involve almost 1,500 golfers.

The Audi Group currently employs more than 70,000 people worldwide, including around 50,000 in Germany. Total investment of approximately €11 billion is planned by 2015 mainly in new products and sustainable technologies.
