<p>US auto major General Motors Indian arm on Monday said it has begun vehicle exports from India, days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘Make in India’ campaign and exhorted foreign investors to ship their produce after manufacturing in the country.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The first exports were done to Chile where the company sent 140 units of its fuel-efficient Chevrolet Beat. The consignment was shipped from Mumbai port on September 25. It will hit Chile’s port in the next few weeks, according to a company official.<br /><br />“The first shipment of Chevrolet Beat demonstrates our commitment to make our India-built products available in global markets,” GM India, President and Managing Director Arvind Saxena said. He said the company will continue to ship models to Chile on a monthly basis.<br /><br />Beat is GM India’s best selling model. It is manufactured at the carmaker’s facility in Maharashtra’s Talegaon. Beat comes in petrol and diesel variants.<br /><br />“We expect to identify additional export markets going forward. This will help drive capacity utilisation at our Talegaon plant,” Saxena said.<br /><br />Talegaon manufacturing facility has an annual production capacity of 1,70,000 vehicles and 1,60,000 engines.</p>
