GST to help improving India's export growth: Nirmala Sitharaman

Last Updated 20 May 2017, 10:13 IST
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) will help improve India's export growth, Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said here on Saturday.

"The way the fitment discussions have happened in the GST Council and the way commodities and services have been treated, GST is only going to help in improving our exports," Sitharaman said at a media conference to brief three years achievements of her Ministry.

She said the GST Council had adressed the issues raised by the Commerce Ministry and new tax regime would help to boost the country's export growth.

The GST council also addressed the issues raised by the Commerce Ministry on refunds and all refund tax claims of exporters will be settled within seven days under the new goods and services tax (GST) regime an official present in the media conference said. India's total exports rebounded with a growth of 4.95 per cent in 2016-17 despite a negative growth in services.
