HCL Tech breaks ground for new global IT centre

The Government of Andhra Pradesh signed a MoU with HCL Technology in 2017.

Nara Lokesh, Minister for Information Technology & Communications, Government of Andhra Pradesh, laid the foundation stone in the presence of Roshni Nadar Malhotra, Executive Director & CEO, HCL corporation.

Roshni Nadar Malhotra, said, “Setting up a Global IT and Training Centre in Vijayawada is one of the biggest initiatives. The creation of this Global Centre is aligned with our strategic vision to expand and create opportunities in the emerging cities. We are confident that the HCL Global Centre in Vijayawada will be one of the best IT centres in the industry in the coming years.”

Nara Lokesh said, “Though it’s a “come back home” campaign, HCL plans to attract talent who belong to Vijayawada and provide them with exciting careers in the areas of application and product development including new technologies on demand. The company will be investing in creating a training centre for engineering graduates from local colleges”.

HCL to invest Rs 700 cr

Meanwhile, the company said it will develop two facilities with an investment of over Rs 700 crore – Campus in Vijayawada and Amravati in phases over the next few years.

A skill development centre with a 1,000-seat capacity will also be developed as part of the MoU. The company would spend Rs 400 crore in the first phase providing employment for 4000 people.

The first building is expected to be ready in less than a year. The first phase would be completed in seven years. As more buildings are added, more employment will be generated.
In the second phase, HCL will start the campus in Amaravati in 20 acres. The investment for this phase will be Rs 350 crore and to house 3,500 IT professionals in five years time.
