Karnataks GIM to take place in January 2020

Karnataka will organise the next Global Investors Meet (GIM) in January 2020 to attract investments in the state, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said.

"To attract further investment, create more jobs, and establish global linkages for the State, the Global Investors Meet will be organised in January 2020," Kumaraswamy said during his inaugural address of at the ASEAN Chambers of Commerce and Industry Business Meet, here on Monday.

The state last hosted Invest Karnataka Summit in 2016, that concluded with 1,201 approved projects and MoUs valued at Rs 3,08,810 crore.

Over the past three years, the state has been topping the list among all the Indian states in terms of garnering investment proposals. The state garnered investment proposals worth Rs 88,493 crore in 2018 (till November), Rs 1,52,118 crore in 2017 and Rs 1,54,173 crore in 2016.

Asean summit

In yet another first for the innovation capital of India, Bengaluru, the first edition of three-day long ASEAN Chambers of Commerce and Industry Business Meet was inaugurated on Monday.

The event is being hosted by Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI). The summit aims to explore the scope for business opportunities in Karnataka with the Asean countries. The main focus is on automobile and auto components, aerospace and defence, engineering and fabrication, smart cities, startups, infrastructure, information technology and renewable energy, among others. There are more than 180 delegates taking part in the event from 22 countries.

The event will see participation from UAE, Hong Kong, the UK, Germany, France, Asean Plus countries such as USA, India, China, Republic of Korea, Japan, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and Asean nations (Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia).

Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) is a regional intergovernmental organisation comprising ten countries in Southeast Asia, which promotes intergovernmental cooperation and facilitates economic, political, security, military, educational, and socio-cultural integration among its members and other countries in Asia.

Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala, Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, representatives from Asean countries and FKCCI were present on the occasion.
