<p>Maruti Suzuki chairman RC Bhargav and managing director Shinzo Nakanishi met Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday and are learnt to have expressed their intent to set up a manufacturing unit on a 500 acre plot with a capacity to produce 10 lakh cars per annum with provisions to produce 20 lakh cars per annum in the second phase depending on the global demands. <br /><br />Stating that the Chief Minister was positive, Bhargav maintained that no firm decision has been taken on the location or site, the final decision of which may be taken within the next three to four months.<br /><br />It is however learnt that out of three locations offered to the company, at Sanand, Halol and Dholera, Maruti has zeroed down on Sanand area near Ahmedabad.<br /><br />Production capacity<br /><br />This will be the first manufacturing unit for the car giant outside Haryana and Bhargava said that the first phase of production would be the capacity to produce 1 million cars, which would take 5 years to set up and would entail Rs 6,000 crores of investment. <br /><br />According to the state government, the company has also shown interest in setting up a skill development centre in the car manufacturing sector and vendors’ park in the state.<br /></p>
