Swedish luxury carmaker Volvo Auto India (VAI) today said it plans to sell 2,000 cars this year in the country as against 1,200 units in 2014.

"We have embarked on a promising growth trajectory with a positive YOY growth, making us one of the fastest growing luxury car makers in India. We plan to sell 2,000 cars in 2015 as against 1,200 sold last year," Volvo Auto India Managing Director Tomas Ernberg told reporters after opening new dealership - KIFS Motors in Mumbai today.

The company established its presence in India in 2007. It is now looking at establishing an assembly plant, Ernberg said without giving any timeline. The decision will be taken when the numbers justify, he said.

The company has also chalked out plans to launch four new models, which includes all-new luxury car XC90 in the country this year.

"We are launching four new models in the current year, which includes two variants of V40. We are planning to launch new XC90 luxurious 7-seater SUV in September this year, which is expected to be priced between Rs 80-85 lakh," Ernberg said.

The company today sells five luxury models -- Volvo S80, Volvo S60, Volvo XC60, Volvo V40 and Volvo XC90. Volvo Auto India is also strengthening its dealership network across the country.

"Buoyed by our increased acceptability among our valued customers in the last 2-3 years, we are now looking at further strengthening our foothold and expanding our reach in the Indian market," he said.

Volvo Cars currently markets products through its dealerships in New Delhi, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Surat, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi, Vishakhapatnam and Pune. Soon the cars will be seen in West Delhi and Kolkata with a new dealership opening.

"The dealership network will be increased from 16 to 21 by end of this year," Ernberg said.
