<p>In a bid towards creating a cleaner environment, Volvo Auto India has announced the launch of the country’s first plug-in hybrid SUV — XC90 T8.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Claimed to be the world’s cleanest seven-seater SUV, the XC90 T8 delivers 49 gram per kilometre (g/km) carbon dioxide, backed with an electric range of up to 40 km.<br /><br />The car offers three distinct driving modes — Pure, Hybrid and Power – and is built on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), with the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which can be both supercharged, and turbocharged.<br /><br />“The XC90 T8 Excellence sets industry benchmarks for environment-friendly efficiency and emissions, while enveloping customers in first-class Swedish luxury.<br />It is not only a segment-first, but India’s first plug-in hybrid SUV, and we see a lot of interest from our more affluent customers, who prefer to experience ‘responsible’ luxury,” Volvo Auto India Managing Director Tom von Bonsdorff said.<br /><br />Emphasising on the technology used in the developing the car, Volvo Cars (Global) Director (Sales and Marketing and PR — Special Cars) Stephan Green said, “It’s not about the good exteriors of the car, but about safe and clean interiors.”<br /> With the new SUV, the company has also introduced its radar-based safety features in India. The car is equipped with 360° radar, and inputs from the camera activate an array of pre-emptive safety functions.<br /><br />Priced at Rs 1.25 crore (Ex-showroom, Delhi), the SUV is available in six different colours. Other prominent features of the Volvo XC90 T8 include a panoramic sunroof, air suspension for all four wheels, perforated heating/cooling, and massage functions in all seats, apart from tyres with noise cancellation technology, among others.</p>
