Campco to export coconut value-added products

Multistate cooperative Campco (Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Co-operative Limited) is all set to tap the potential of value added products from coconut.

Campco President S R Sathishchandra told media persons that they will invest about Rs 40 crore on a state-of-the art plant with a capacity of one lakh nuts per day.”The land for the plant is being identified,” he said.

“The plant will manufacture virgin oil, desiccated coconut powder, pasteurised coconut milk among others. Initially, nearly 50 per cent of the products manufactured in the plant will be exported to foreign countries,’’ Campco Managing Director M Suresh Bhandary said.

Campco has already contacted Alfa Laval to supply machinery and market its products. “The venture will help farmers in getting a competitive price for their produce,” he stressed.

Due to the rain, Campco has succeeded in selling 140 tonnes of copper sulphate to farmers. The 44 year-old Campco has achieved an all-time high turn over of Rs 1,742 crore and a net profit of Rs 41 crore.

“We have recommended a 10 per cent dividend which would be announced at the board’s annual general meeting being planned in Sanghaniketan on September 29,’’ Sathishchandra said.

The total production of Campco chocolate factory touched 13,685 metric tonnes.

Chocolates worth Rs 182 crore had been sold in previous fiscal. As much as 1,308 metric tonne of chocolate valued at Rs 20 crore has been exported to foreign countries. Three tonnes of chocolates (Dairy Dream) with required calories were supplied to Indian Navy in Visakapatnam, Mumbai and Kochi.

Campco Vice President Shankaranarayana Bhat Khandige and Deputy General Manager Reshma Mallya were also present during the press meet.

Campco transactions:

* Arecanut purchased at Rs1452.92 cr and sold for Rs.1472.45 cr
* Rubber purchased for Rs.48.87 cr and sold for Rs.49.86 cr
* Purchased pepper worth Rs.9.25 cr sold a part of it for Rs.1.70 cr
