Case against ASI who refused rape victim's plaint

Last Updated 01 December 2018, 18:23 IST

DK Superintendent of Police Ravikante Gowda said that a case under IPC Section 166 (a) and (c) has been registered against an ASI attached to Bantwal Town Police Station, in connection with the recent gangrape of a woman at Thota Bengre beach in Mangaluru.

As ASI Raghuram Hegde failed to file a complaint when the victim approached the police station on November 20, there was a delay in filing of the complaint by the police. Though the incident had occurred on November 20, the case was filed only on November 26, after the Panambur police took suo motu action after coming to know of the incident and tracing the victim.

The ASI had not only failed to accept the case but had also failed to inform the higher officials of the incident and the concerned police station jurisdiction where the incident had occurred.

He had also failed to send the victim to the concerned police station along with the police personnel, said the SP. The SP has already suspended the ASI, pending departmental enquiry for dereliction of duty.
