Centre sets up Cow Commission

The Centre on Wednesday approved the setting up of "Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog" (National Cow Commission) aimed at upscale genetic upgrade of cow resources and to enhance production and productivity of cows.

The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the setting up of "Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog," Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters after the meeting.

The setting up commisssion will lead to conservation, protection and development of cattle population in the country including development and conservation of indigenous breeds, the minister said.

The Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog will work in collaboration with Veterinary, Animal Sciences or Agriculture University or departments or organizations of the Central/State Government engaged in the task of research in the field of breeding and rearing of cow, organic manure, biogas etc, the statement said.

In the interim budget, Finance Minister Piyush Goyal allocated Rs 750 crore to Rashtriya Gokul Mission and also announced the proposal of setting up of "Rashtriya Kamdhenu
Aayog."
