The Urban Development Department (UDD), the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Bengaluru Smart City Limited (BSCL) on Tuesday approved the tender for the upgrade of 16 roads under the Smart Cities Mission.

The BBMP had floated tenders for upgrading 16 roads for the project titled ‘Revitalisation of Historic Heart of the City’ as per the guidelines of TenderSure with smart components for a total of 12.67-km stretch.

The BBMP, which is the nodal agency for the implementation of the project, had floated the tenders under six packages in March this year for a cost of Rs 200 crore. With this, the BBMP is all set to give a fresh touch to the major roads in the Central Business District (CBD).

Speaking to DH, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said, “The tender has been approved by the board of directors of the BSCL today (Tuesday) and the work order to the bidder will be issued shortly after the due bank guarantee formalities is completed. The work will start in one month. Meanwhile, we had 15 days ago issued a work order for the commencement of smart road work along 20 stretches. The new list of 16 roads will also start simultaneously,” he said.

The BBMP had earlier this month issued the work order for smart roads along 20 stretches in the CBD at a cost of Rs 231 crore under seven packages. The work had also included laying cobblestones along Commercial Street for 750 metres at a cost of Rs 8 crore.
