About 25,000 people visited the Raj Bhavan in the past fortnight when the grand estate had allowed the public to enjoy its magnificence.

Public visit to the colonial era estate ended on Wednesday and sources in the governor's mansion revealed to DH that the response to its decision to allow the public has been extraordinary.

"Public were allowed to visit from August 23 to September 6. The response was overwhelming. Not only people from Bengaluru, but there were visitors from other districts and neighbouring states as well who visited the Raj Bhavan," a senior security official said.

The estate in central Bengaluru was opened to public visit for the first time since the building was taken over by the government.

On Wednesday, 300 people turned up to enjoy the sprawling estate with its elegant gardens that sparkled in colour lighting.

Raj Bhavan officials expressed gratitude for the support from the tourism department, police, home guards, BBMP, horticulture department and Department of Information and Public Relations, which contributed to the success of the exercise.
