In a major breakthrough, the Marathahalli police have arrested three members of the maintenance staff at Cisco Systems (India) Private Limited for stealing lab optics worth Rs 87 lakh from the company.

Manas Ranjan Das (24) and Janama Jaya Satar (24) were picked up from their paying guest accommodation while Nirankari (23) was arrested from Kodigehalli.

A senior police officer said the suspects had been stealing from the company’s locker for the past couple of months and had filched nearly
197 lab optics. The incident came to light on May 20 when the supervisor of the security department noticed the disappearance of over 10 units of lab optics worth Rs 30 lakh from the locker. He then filed a complaint with the Marathahalli police who found that a total of 197 lab optics were stolen.

Following the manager’s suspicions, the three suspects were observed for a few days. After gathering credible inputs and constant surveillance, the team arrested one of them and, following his confession, the other two were also
arrested.

Higher value

During the questioning, the suspects told the police that they didn’t know how expensive the lab optics and has sold them to local vendors. The arrested receiver identified as Chandrakant revealed that lab optics were difficult to trace in the Indian market, hence their value was higher.

“Chandrakant used to sell the optics to scrap agents and local dealers. The team has recovered a huge cache from the arrested,” said a police officer.
