91.13 lakh voters in Bengaluru this year

As many as 91.13 lakh people in the city have registered in the electoral roll this year. This includes 47.60 lakh men and 43.50 lakh women, apart from 1,629 other category voters, from the 28 Assembly constituencies.

More than 4.39 lakh first-timers have been added. A total of 85,248 names were deleted from the list, too.

"During the special electoral drive conducted from January 23 to April 17, more than 4.39 lakh newcomers have enrolled. Also, 39,129 people have applied for corrections and 11,878 have applied for a change of address," BBMP commissioner and district election officer N Manjunath Prasad said at a press conference on Monday.

The Election Commission will distribute the Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC), voters' slip and voter guide booklets through the booth-level officer between May 3 and 5 across the city. "Citizens should carry their voter ID card along with the voter's slip on the polling day," he said.

12 options

If a voter doesn't have his/her EPIC and has their name on the voter list, they can use any of the 12 identity proof to exercise their franchise: passport, driver's licence, service IDs with a photograph (issued by the central government/state government/PSU), bank or post office passbook with photo, PAN card, smart card by RGI under NPR, MNREGA job card, health insurance card issued by the Ministry of Labour, pension document with photo, photo voter slip, ID card issued to MPs, MLAs/MLCs, and Aadhaar card.

60 cases of paid news

The Media Control and Monitoring Committee has registered 60 cases related to paid news and advertisements published on behalf of a party or candidate on social media and print, radio and electronic media without taking necessary permission.

Liquor ban

The Palike and the Election Commission have banned the sale of liquor for 48 hours before the day of polling and on the day of counting.
