The High Court of Karnataka has granted bail to Abhishek, the seventh accused in the pub assault case involving Shanthinagar legislator N A Haris's son, Mohammed Haris Nalapad, at Farzi Café, UB City, on February 17, 2018.

Justice John Michael Cunha passed the order on a criminal petition filed by Abhishek, one of Nalapad's associates. The petitioner's advocate stated that Abhishek had been in judicial custody for 90 days and that police investigation showed that he hadn't carried any dangerous weapon during the incident.

Besides Nalapad and Abhishek, four others are accused of brutally attacking L Vidwath, who is the son of a businessman. Vidwath, with a fractured leg, was dining at the cafe when the accused streamed in. Nalapad and his associates got angry because Vidwath had stretched his fractured leg in the aisle. The group brutally assaulted him and even chased him to the Mallya Hospital where he was admitted.

The jurisdictional Cubbon Park police recently filed the charge sheet in the case that drew widespread condemnation. Haris had to apologise in the Legislative Assembly, and the Congress party held his nomination until the last minute. Haris went on to win the Shanthinagar seat, defeating the BJP's K Vasudevamurthy by an impressive margin of 18,205 votes.
