Addl registrar of societies, FDA held for graft

The accused arrested are Additional Registrar (House and Others) R Sridhar and FDA Pushpalatha.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths on Tuesday arrested Additional Registrar of Co-operative Societies and a First Division Assistant (FDA) on charges of corruption.

Police said the complainant is an RTI activist and had approached the office of the Registrar of Co-operative Societies on Ali Askar Road to register a multi-purpose society by
name Bharatiya Sahakara Sangha.

“The process starts by issuing a certificate to start issuance of shares. The accused demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh and after negotiation scaled it down to Rs 5.50 lakh,” an official said.

The accused arrested are Additional Registrar (House and Others) R Sridhar and FDA Pushpalatha.

The activist filed a complaint with the ACB and a trap was laid.

On Tuesday, the complainant visited the office of the Registrar of Co-operative Societies to pay an advance amount of Rs 55,000 for permission to allot shares.

Pushpalatha received Rs 5,000 and kept Rs 50,000 in the file to be given to Sridhar. The accused were then arrested.
