BBMP’s DiGi7 app riddled with glitches, say users

DiGi7, BBMP’s app that assigns a seven-digit identification to the 19 lakh properties across the city, is beset with bugs and failures.

Users complain that the app is showing wrong property details when the unique identification number assigned by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike is provided.

Developed by BBMP’s IT team, the app was launched on March 15. It assigns a series of alpha-numeric numbers serving as permanent identifier of a property’s location, type, owner, ward boundary etc.

While launching the app, the civic body said citizens can use DiGi7 to identify properties, get directions and navigate to the address. They can also share the details over SMS, WhatsApp and other mobile based applications.

Downloaded by more than 5,000 people from Google Play Stores, where it is available for users of Android phones, the app has secured an abysmal 2.3 rating. Most users complained about technical glitches while using the app.

Narayan S Balaji, an app user, said the pointer on the map is way off the mark. “Google Map correctly pinpoints location but BBMP’s pointer doesn’t synchronize,” he said. “IT’s confusing to accept the identity.”

A few users have complained in the review section that the location identification in the app is wrong. “When we choose to share the property description, we get a URL pointing to a different property,” said another app user Rupesh Chikop.

“What is the point in having log-in credentials if the property is going to be wrongly identified?” he asked.

Acknowledging the issues with the app, BBMP officials said there is a delay in fixing the bugs due to the forthcoming Assembly elections.

“We contact the Revenue Department for the problems (in the app) in identifying the properties since they provide the details. But the Department officials are n election duty. We’ll fix the bugs once elections are over,” said a BBMP IT department official.

Since DiGi7 is a service app, there could be some minor technical issues, the official said. “It’s quite normal to have glitches in the initial days. We’re working to fix all of them and add more property details,” he revealed.

Among the series of apps released by the BBMP, only the Indira Canteen app has the highest rating of four.
