'BBMP to act against misuse of residential buildings'

Last Updated 21 September 2018, 12:30 IST

Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara on Wednesday said strict action will be taken against those misusing residential buildings for commercial purposes in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits.

“Nearly 30% of residential buildings are being misused for commercial purposes. The BBMP is incurring a revenue loss to the tune of Rs 1,000 crore annually because of this. Strict action will be taken against owners of such properties,” Parameshwara, who also holds the Bengaluru City development portfolio, told reporters.

He said the BBMP is planning to launch a drive against the same.

The owners will have to convert their properties into commercial ones as per the rules or face action. It will not only prevent misuse but also bring good revenue to the BBMP, he said.

Parameshwara also said he will not yield to any lobby and ensure that garbage contractors do their job as per rules. Steps will be taken to
ensure that contractors’ bills are cleared on time, he said.

Asked about Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s statement on corruption in the government, Parameshwara said he was not aware of the context in which he made the statement. But there is a need to curb corruption.

The Karnataka Lokayukta and the Anti-Corruption Bureau will take
appropriate steps in this regard, he said.
