Last Updated 10 June 2018, 18:18 IST

The wobbling Varthur bridge was inspected by BBMP commissioner M Maheshwar Rao along with senior officials on Sunday. The civic body has purchased special equipment as part of its efforts to repair the bridge.

The preparatory work will start from Monday, the officials said.

After local residents and NGOs petitioned the civic body, a committee of engineers and experts had inspected the bridge on May 23 and suggested a replacement of its bearings.

"A refurbishment design of the bridge is in progress and will take three days to be completed. Once it is done, we will start the actual work and finish it within 30 days," a senior BBMP official said.

With rain lashing the city, Rao also inspected the Madiwala lake and stormwater drain works in the Arekere area on Sunday.
