The BBMP on Thursday informed the high court that suitable steps will be taken to address the concern of illegal shops coming up at KR Market and to ensure the safety standards.
The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by the flower merchants’ association and others who have contended that 50-odd shops are being illegally constructed on the public passage and also at the fire exit area.
The BBMP counsel also informed the court that the deputy chief minister and senior officers visited KR Market and conducted an inspection.
The petitioners also contended that 95 fire accidents have already taken place at K R Market area.
