A police sub-inspector attached to Mahadevapura police station in Bengaluru sustained injuries after a rowdy-sheeter attacked him with a machete during early hours of Thursday.

Harikumar (36), the SI, was shifted to Hosmat hospital in Bengaluru. The attack took place when the SI was attempting to detain Appen, the rowdy-sheeter. There are 15 cases against him.

A team of five policemen was searching for Aza’s son around 1.30 am. The police also wanted to detain Appen. The policemen in civil dress knocked on the doors of a house. Appen opened the door and attacked the SI who sustained injuries on his hands. However, he opened fire using his service revolver, but Appen managed to escape.

The police deployed additional forces after the incident.

The incident created fear among local residents. They charged that rowdy activities were increasing in the locality. A few people had threatened a bar owner brandishing lethal weapons in the past. A video of the incident had gone viral.

An unidentified person had burgled a sword from a temple at Andersonpet and walked on the street without fear during broad daylight.

Rowdy activities had come down after the police began conducting rowdy parades. However, the activities have gone up again, they alleged.
