Bengaluru gets sports injury centre

Last Updated 19 September 2018, 20:05 IST

Sunil Chhetri, captain of the Indian football team and Bengaluru FC, inaugurated the sports injury centre at the Sakra World Hospital on Wednesday.

Chhetri said on-field injuries are an important phenomenon and a decisive factor that ended several promising careers of sportspersons.

The centre offers integrated diagnostics, rehabilitation and treatment for injured players. It has already performed a meniscal transplant on a Yemeni footballer who had injured his anterior cruciate ligament and inner meniscus on the field. Having lost 80% of his inner meniscus, the only option was to perform a meniscus transplant from a cadaver. The meniscal transplant, the first in Karnataka, was done using the keyhole technique. The patient was discharged two days after the surgery.
