Cong goes to police against 'defamatory' FB accounts

The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has filed a complaint against two Facebook accounts for posting defamatory messages against the Congress party.

Nataraj Gowda, KPCC’s social media coordinator, in his complaint to the Halasuru Gate police on Thursday, stated that a Facebook group administrator identified as Chakravarthy Mithun, having two Facebook accounts, Namo Tsunami and Team Modi, were posting messages.

Defamatory posts

One of the Facebook posts read: “Vote for Modi to get Rafale to the Indian Army, Congress is an anti-national party that is asking proof for the air-strikes, Would you want to be another wing commander Abhinandan?, if you vote for the BJP by pressing the Lotus button, you will experience an air-strike,” and the like.

Violation of poll code

These messages on social media amount to violation of the election code of conduct and were brought to the notice of the chief election commissioner before filing the police complaint, Gowda stated in his complaint.

The police have registered an FIR against Mithun charging him under various sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the People’s Representation Act, 1951, and are carrying out further investigations.
